Teddy Bears' Picnic

During the year we hold special events for children and their families.

This Summer we believe we have the answer to that age old problem “Mum I’m Bored”! The answer is at MK44 2EE otherwise know as Thurleigh Farm & Adventure Playground.

Each week (weekdays only) of the school holidays we will be running a different theme of activities. The first week begins July 20th and we are looking for brave Mini Beast Detectives (no previous experience required). Join our Chief of Detectives, our fountain of knowledge and our chief Mini Beast tracker (parochially called Vikki). Walk with her up to the woods (or cheat a little and take a tractor ride). In the woods our Huntress will strip back the Mini Beast camouflage allowing you to come face to face with nature’s little creations. Grab hold of this great opportunity – not too tightly or you might squish the little bug-s.

The Second week from Monday 27th July to Friday 31st July we will gain be focusing on the woods. Harking back to earlier times of civilisation, organise your family group to build a family home, well more like a leaky den to be honest. If mums feel they have had enough home building for one life time watch the kids take twigs, sticks, branches and other valuable building blocks to make a sweet home from home (yes even if it looks like a pile of well placed twigs, tell them it looks cosy and if they play their cards wrong they will likely be sleeping in it for that night).

The next week Monday Aug 3rd to Friday Aug 7th is medieval week. Its all swords, daggers, shields and jousting of course. Do your heraldic homework before you arrive (ask the kids how to use the internet if you are reading this over a friends’ shoulder). Research your family history so that you are prepared to adorn the shield the kids make with the family coat of arms (if that’s too difficult try drawing coats with arms, M&S has a large selection for inspiration). Next you will need a sword or dagger to go with the shield. Finally, the bravest Knights of all Thurleigh Farm & Adventure Playground will joust to be crowned Chief Knight of Thurleigh and awarded the OTT (Order of the Tourist of Thurleigh). Furthermore, if the weather remains kind there will be a chance to help paint a castle, even adorn it with a replica of your own coat of arms.

Look, if by now you feel there is enough for several trips to Thurleigh Farm and Adventure Playground, but you don’t know how you can afford all these trips take a look at our Membership page. Briefly, we are introducing a new membership lasting for just 3 months. For the price of just 2 visits you can visit us as many times as you wish during those 3 months, i.e. your 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, visits are free! Just £15 or children and £11 for adults and you could visit us during each week of our special summer activities and why not visit us even more often. You can stop our kid from being bored all summer for just £15 – unbelievable!

The following week Monday Aug 10th to Friday Aug 14th is Equestrian week. Suitable for those who fear horses or are allergic to them. Let your kids relive your youth for you. Remember taking out the kitchen chairs, broomsticks, buckets and anything else you could put your hands on to rebuild Olympia in your very own sunny back garden? Then, singing clippity clops, you prance (technical term for impersonating a horse and rider) around the back garden faster than your friends and family and without incurring any faults. Well we have the lot: we have the jumps, the ponies (you have got to believe us on this one). We will even go further; we have the dressage ring and the flat racing course for those with excess energy to burn (all of us right?). Now, this will be open to all ages, so for the more professional parents amongst us, I suspect that you will want to pack your trainers to swap out of your flip flops when it comes to your turn. This is essential we would suggest for the jumps and flat racing and be honest with yourselves, are you likely to score maximum style points in the dressage wearing Poundland flip flops? Just think how proud the kids will be of you as the winners’ rosette adorns your T-shirt as you complete your weekly shop at Sainsbury’s.

The following week Monday Aug 17th to Friday Aug 21st is Summer Party week. Regulars will know about our Summer Party well this will be similar but will last all week. We aim to create a village fete atmosphere with games such as winning a goldfish by getting a ping pong in a jar, hammer a nail, darts-in-cards, Play Your Cards Right, Lucky Dip and on and on. Loads of sweets to win I am afraid, maybe this is the entire summer’s sugar intake in one hit.

Finally, Monday Aug 24th to Aug 28th week 6 of our Summer Extravaganza thingy. It’s the Kids Olympics! London may have won 2012, but we are ahead of them this year. Health & Safety being paramount we would like to reassure parents that there will be mandatory random drug testing during Olympic week – so please register any paraphernalia such as Vicks nasal sprays, Halls Throat lozenges and Tunes with the appropriate enforcement agencies before participation. ‘Clean’ athletes (we will be checking behind the ears) will be able to compete in egg and spoon races, hoopla raceways, hurling (we are not sure exactly what at the moment, but you get our drift). Medals galore to be won At the time of writing we have not received any funding for an opening or losing ceremony that would attract billions of viewers around the world, but we intend to focus on the fun stuff anyway.

Easter
Our Easter Activities will run from Saturday 4th April to Sunday 19th April.

The main theme for spring is new life and we have lambs from nearby farms that are either orphaned or rejected by their mothers. With your help we can hand rear these lambs with regular feeding sessions during the day. Times can vary a little from day to day but the lambs are usually fed around 11am, then again around 2pm and finally at around 5pm.

The animal theme extends to bunny cuddling sessions, animal feeding and pony rides. Our pricing is now all inclusive so the pony rides are no longer at additional cost. We run a schedule through the day and bunny cuddling and animal feeding are usually just before lunch and again after 4pm. Scheduling for pony rides vary but they will usually be on sometime between 12:30 and 3pm.

Throughout the Easter period there will be Easter Trails which if you follow the clues leads to a small reward.

Over the Easter weekend there is an Easter Egg Hunt on Good Friday, Easter Saturday, Sunday and Monday. We ask visitors to find golden balls with one per child exchanged for a prize. These balls are replenished through the day. On Easter Sunday we will hold an Easter Bonnet competition.

We will also have an all inclusive rollerblading rink for youngster and adults alike to skate round the big rink. We provide the roller blades and all safety equipment. If you have your own equipment you are welcome to use it.

Teddy Bears' Picnic

May - Teddy Bears' Picnic.

Why not join us for a Teddy Bear's Picnic on Bank Holiday Monday 5th May and all of half term week from Saturday 24th May to 1st June.

Why not visit us and bring your own picnic or buy one form us? You can take the tractor ride to Wacky Woods and enjoy your picnics there. In the woods you will fin a Teddy Bear’s trail, playhouses, tyre swings, and our reindeer. Amble back to the main centre to enjoy all the usual activities.

You can order a picnic from the café (a choice available for £5.25 for adults and £3.50 for children) by visiting the café before 11:30am or by telephone in advance by calling 01234 771597).

Halloween
Sat October 24th - Sunday 1st November

Halloween: Spooky Fun Festival

Come and visit the Best Seasonal Family Halloween attraction as awarded last year in the inaugural Screamie awards. These awards are based on votes from visitors to the UKs ‘scary’ attractions and so first a BIG THANK YOU to any of our visitors from last year that also voted for us to win this award.

We were stunned to win the award and mega chuffed too. So what is about our event that is so well received? Well we call it the Spooky Fun Festival and it does exactly that. There are scary goings on but we try and make these funny as well. It is true that some of the little ones might get a fright too far, but it I also true that adults leave laughing (once all the screaming is over!)

There are many fun and spooky activities during half term and on Halloween.

New last year was the Orridly Aunted Hattic. It is what it says it is. It's upstairs, it’s absolutely horrid and it’s occupied by ghosts and other things that go bump in the night. In fact its so scary kids must be accompanied by adults and we suggest the under 6s sit this one out. This was a bigger success than we thought and it seems strange to say but the adults found this harder to get through than the kids. We still advise that with kids under 6 you should think twice about going in, but last year this advice was not always heeded. In one case this led to a frantic mum running out of the Attic too scared to complete the journey whilst the kids happily finished off the tour with brave aunty.

The highlight for most visitors, though, is the Scary Tractor Ride through the Wicked Woods. You know you will be attacked by monsters; you know your head is not going to be chopped off; you know the tractor will not be crushed; you know barbequed kids are not really on the menu; you also know knowing does not matter, you will still jump, scream, squirm or all three and that's just the dads! Last year this was bigger and better than ever and we will step it up again for 2009. We try and keep one side of the route a little less scary than the other side so the little ones are not too traumatised, but it is always the scary side that gets filled in first. Whether its relief, the release of all the jangling nerves, but the Scary Tractor Ride always ends with a group of giggling parents. It’s great interactive entertainment and not to be missed.

The Field of Fear is a straightforward Maize Maze by day. The Scarecrows are a little scarier than normal and there is a little bit more noise than normal, but the Maze is negotiable. At night things could not be more different. Take away the light and you then have a recipe for scaring yourselves witless. So few of our visitors complete the Maze at night, or at least survive to tell us the tale.

The Ghost Train Ride could be described as a short sharp shock, but only because it is short, shocking and the engine has a pointy nose. Take the short ride through the Haunted Tunnel (often a single ticket is better value for money than a return one which never gets used!). The Ghost Train is scarier than the Scary Tractor Ride and a little more intense because of the confines of the tunnel. But on demand we can turn down the scare factor for our youngest guests or even invite them to the ‘Other Side’ and let them be Little Monsters and help scare our train passengers (we find that most children need very little training to become Little Monsters).

There are ways of calming the nerves from all the excitement. A nice way to do that is to visit the Deadly Dungeon and carve a pumpkin or do some Arts & Craft activities. There is always the café to relax in although don’t expect to be served a stiff brandy even for medicinal purposes to help recover from shock.

We run a full schedule of all our usual activities such as quads, bungee trampolines, animal feeding, bunny cuddling, fire engine and pony rides etc. and these are all included in the entry price. In fact the entry price includes all our activities except for the cost of buying a pumpkin to carve.

Entry prices for Halloween are £8.50 for children 4 and over, £7.00 for children 3 and under and £6.00 for adults. Each pumpkin carved will cost £1.50-3.50 depending on size.

But as we say the Scary just got Scarier. We will be hosting Fright Nights on Wednesday 28th, Thursday 29th, Friday 30th and Halloween night itself Saturday 31st October.

On these days we will be open as normal from 9:30am but will stay open later until 8:00pm. Join us for the day or come as it gets dark. On these late days we would like to encourage visits from working families and families with perhaps older children brave enough to take the scary tractor ride, ghost train or field of screams in the DARK!

Each of the four Fright Nights will also include a short Firework Finale (please note this is not a full firework display).

These evenings have proved very popular. The atmosphere is great and you can add to it by dressing up – get the kids to dress up too.

See the scary world from the tractor and trailer rides.

VISIT US IF YOU DARE !!!! HA HA HA HAAAAAAA!!!!

Happy Christmas

Christmas General Public - Saturday 28th November - December 24th
Programme

We are delighted that Santa chooses Thurleigh Farm & Adventure Playground for a little holiday rest before the big push on Christmas Eve Night. While he is relaxing away the days and fine tuning his strategic planning with the Elves and Rudolf, he loves nothing more than meeting visitors and having little chats about life.

In fact, you might like to be one of his visitors whilst he’s here. He is very approachable, quiet funny as well apparently and by the comments we get he obviously is on good form whilst here which we hope is partly explained by his pleasant surroundings.

We decorate out is little home so that he does not get too homesick. The reindeer are also well looked after and you can visit them as well as they practice their routines to get all the prezzies to the right homes.

I bet if the kids play their cards right they may even leave with a present from Santa himself.

You might also be able to save on a postage stamp by bringing in any letters you may have for Santa.

There are lots of other activities to pass the time. We run a full schedule of our usual activities including a Tractor and ‘Sleigh’ ride through the Decorated Woods. You can also take a short train ride through Santa’s Toyland Tunnel and visit Santa’s Nightime Labyrinth.

Santa Parties (Birthday or Christmas Party)
    Santa (Seasonal, November 28th - December 24th)
We tend to do Santa parties during our Christmas Season; they seem to work best at this time of year. Our Christmas Season starts Saturday November 28th, although we have done Santa parties earlier than this when asked. The children get to feed the animals and even to meet Santa’s reindeer. They have the chance to explore Santa’s Nightime Labyrinth, ride on General Shirley a miniature train ride through Santa’s Toyland Tunnel, cuddle a rabbit in the Winter Wonderland and take the Tractor and ‘Sleigh’ Ride through the Decorated Woods. Then whilst the children are eating their party food, Santa comes and joins the party, chatting to the guests, enjoying some seasonal banter. If he is in a good mood (which to be fair to him he usually is) then he often has presents for all the children with an extra special present for the birthday child.

This party is suitable for all ages, even the waiverers. The price is just £12.25 per child and this includes a gift for each child from the great man himself (no real need to buy party bags then).

Party Format: 30 mins indoor play with squash provided, 20 minutes for the Tractor and ‘Sleigh’ ride through the Decorated Woods and the General Shirley Ride through Santa’s Toyland Tunnel. 35 minutes to explore the seasonal activities on the farm an and meet Santa’s Reindeer, 5 minutes for hand wash and 30 mins for party food with Santa visiting the party with a bag full of gifts.
Each Party includes free entrance for 4 adults plus an extra adult for each child 4 years old or younger.
