Health and Safety

We pay particular attention to health and safety issues and every school or group leader will be supplied with a copy of H.S.E. Guidelines, relating to Health & Safety on Open Farms.

These are also available on the H.S.E web site.
Click here to view them. (NB requires Acrobat reader)

We are very aware of potential problems relating to Health & Safety issues and have taken every possible step to overcome them. Every year almost 14 million people visit open farms and the number of reported Health and Safety problems is, in reality, very small.

However, in the light of recent E-Coli scares we have done all we can to overcome any potential hazards.

  • All our animals are checked regularly by our Vet.
  • We have put new fences around all our paddocks to make absolutely certain all the animals are restrained within.
  • We have installed more hand basins and located Instant Hand Wash dispensers near the animals.
  • Copious amounts of anti-bacterial handwash are always available.
  • If requested we can issue a pair of disposable rubber gloves (optional)
  • Any groups with children with special needs can bring as many adults as they wish FREE OF CHARGE in order that the children can be supervised on a one-to-one basis, if required.

The Farm Centre and the Farm Tours are set up in such a way that groups can have little or no contact with farm animals if required.

Visits can be structured more towards education and farming or more towards play activities. We can adapt to your requirements when you book.
